Histoire :

 

1951 Gajah Tunggal was established to produce bicycle tires and inner tubes.

1971 Technical assistance agreement signed with the Inoue Rubber Company of Japan to produce motorcycle tires.

1981 Company started producing bias tires for passenger and commercial vehicles with technical assistance from the Yokohama Rubber Company of Japan.

1989 Company started producing radial tires for passenger cars and light trucks.

1990 Gajah Tunggal was listed on the Jakarta and Surabaya Stock Exchange.

1991 Gajah Tunggal acquired GT Petrochem Industries, a producer of tire cord and nylon filament.

1992 The Company?s depository receipts (SDRs) were quoted on the Singapore Stock Exchange.

1994 Gajah Tunggal received quality certification such as the E-Mark from the European community, the quality testing certification from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

1995 Gajah Tunggal acquired Langgeng Bajapratama, a steel and bead wire producer Gajah Tunggal received ISO 9002 international quality certification for its radial tire production quality control systemGajah Tunggal received quality certification the TUV CERT from Germany.

1996 Gajah Tunggal acquired Meshindo Alloy Wheel Corporation, the second largest manufacturer of aluminum alloy wheels in Indonesia Gajah Tunggals main subsidiary, GT Petrochem Industries, expanded its operations to include synthetic rubber, ethylene glycol, polyester filament and polyester staple fiber.

1997 Gajah Tunggal entered into an off-take agreement with Pirelli Tyre to produce Pirelli designed passenger car radial tires for North America and Europe Gajah Tunggal?s radial tire plant obtained ISO 9001 certification for its quality design, development and installation systems.

1999 The radial tire plant received ISO 9001 for its quality in design, development and installation systems.

2000 Received ISO 9002 for its radial tire production quality control system.

2002 Received QS 9000 quality certification, one of the requirements to supply to US "Big Three".

Signed Restructuring Agreement enabling the Company to lower its debt burden by more than US$200m.

2003 PT GT Petrochem Industries Tbk reached agreement on its debt restructuring.

2004 Michelin and Garibaldi investment took control in May with 78% of the Company's shares.

GT Signed Distribution and Manufacturing Agreement with Michelin to distribute Michelin tires in local market (Indonesia) and produce Michelin's associate brands for overseas market. Launched "TireZone", retail concept stores that provides a range of world class tires includes GT Radial, Michelin, and BF Goodrich. Finalized corporate restructuring - deconsolidated PT GT PetroChem and exit from other non-core business, take on Tire Cord and SBR.

2005 Received ISOTS16949, upgrade from QS 9000, more accepted by the Japanese and the European automotive industry.

Divested Meshindo Alloy Wheel.

Issued their first global bond of US$ 325 million maturing in 2010.

GT-Radial sur Pneus-Online :

La marque indonésienne GT Radial a été couronnée avec le titre de « meilleur rapport qualité prix » par le magazine auto américain « Motor », en juillet 2006. Fondée en 1951, la petite usine de pneus de vélo est devenue aujourd'hui le plus grand fabricant de pneumatiques de l'Asie du Sud-Est. Au niveau mondial, GT Radial occupe une place dans le top 20 des manufacturiers. Situé dans un environnement naturel propice à son développement, où le caoutchouc est la plus importante des matières premières, GT Radial, attire par la qualité de ses pneus, conçus pour se plier toujours mieux aux goûts des consommateurs. Ces gommes sont connues dans une centaine de pays pour leur penchant technologique avancé et leur look très moderne. Ils ont ainsi séduit le groupe Michelin qui achète en 2005 une bonne partie des actions. Un coup de maître si on considère que GT Radial a toujours collaboré avec des fabricants renommés, comme Pirelli, BF Goodrich ou Yokohama.

Alliance with Leading Global Tire Manufacturer - Michelin

 

On May 2004, Gajah Tunggal and Michelin had signed business co-operation agreements focused on the manufacture of passenger car tires for Michelin markets and distribution activities in Indonesia. Related to this business co-operation agreements, Michelin had also acquired 10% of the Company's share capital. Under the manufacturing agreement, Gajah Tunggal will manufacture a selected range of Michelin Group's associated brands of car tires (excluding the Michelin brand), including high speed rated tires, for various markets served by Michelin. Under the distribution agreement, Gajah Tunggal will distribute in Indonesia, through its extensive network, a selected range of Michelin Group's passenger car and light truck tires, including Michelin and BFGoodrich brands, for the replacement market.
