Thanks shortleg for this Alpine story at Targa Florio

In 1967, n°180 was a A110

https://aws-cf.caradisiac.com/prod/mesimages/172915/A110Targa67.jpg

and n°182 was not really a A210. His nickname was ''la sauterelle'' ( grass-hoper), a châssis GT4 and a body M64.

https://aws-cf.caradisiac.com/prod/mesimages/172915/SauterelleTarga67.jpg

What means ND? not departure?

See you next.

You are right! Thanks for clarification, the starting list is evidently wrong! :non:

N.D. means not departure,yes.

n°118 Ramoino-Trenti A110 1,3 ab.

n°119 Ljacono-Mantia A110 1,3 ab.

pardon for the omissions! :jap:

Hello ronny, in 1912-13-14 the race was denominated Giro di Sicilia-Targa Florio because took place on route of Giro di Sicilia (km 1050 around Isle) and was valid for 7^,8^,9^Targa Florio, like in '48,'49 and '50.

The car n°17 in 1920 (Baldoni) was forced to withdrawal.

Now I'd like to profit by to show some images from Giro di Sicilia

Hallo Targa Fans

I´m a journalist in Germany. As I´m writing a book about the Porsche activities at the Targa Florio I´m looking for some photographs of the 1970 event. Especially I search pictures of the Porsche 917, which was driven during the Pretesting (many laps) and the practise (just one lap, 5th fastest time) by Vic Elford. The car was painted red and Elford had an accident during the pretests. Due to the heat it was also driven without doors.

Furthermore I´m looking for pictures af the accident when a Porsche mechanic crashed the car near Cefalu. Probably you know that the car burned and was completly destroyed.

If you know pictures I would appreciate it very much if you could name me the photographer. Published pictures will be paid for of course.

I made a lot of pictures during the 1971, 1972 and 1973 race. Perhaps I can post them sometime , when I have more time.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Carlos, I found a picture 0f the 917 but it was blue not red. Colour red was at LeMans, it was the same car but repainted blue)

Thanks shortleg

I know the picture you posted. It´s an AP-picture and it´s published in Vic Elfords book. But how do you know the car is blue ? In the galleries of "Targa Florio.net" they have a color-picture of the same car at the pits near Cerda - and the car is defenitely red with white stripes. If you have got some real informations of a blue car, then there must have been 2 different 917.

Perhaps someone knows more about this car and the car, which was destroyed by the mechanic.

Thanks again

Carlos

Hello, here is the colour picture! :sol:

In March '70 the Porsche came in Sicily to comparative tests with a 917 red colour, but that car was destroyed by a mechanic. In May (I was there  ) the car taking part in official tests was blue colour, driven by Elford with n°2. Now is all clear?

bye from Shortleg

Hi shortleg, thanks for the answer about "Sabipa". Here the arrival of Mme Junek in 1928, in a long article about her in Road &Track of february .60 it is said that people where so surprised about her performance that the flagman failed to stop Divo who actually drove 6 laps. I have never seen that anywhere else, do you know if it is true?

Hi pifpa, what written in Road&Track is not correct; Divo finished regularly, on the contrary, Chiron (4°) engrossed in the race, continued for another lap (108 km)! When returned on start line he was looked fresh and satisfacted like before beginning !!!

Tanks shortleg. The older I grew, the more doubtfull I am about what people write in books and magazines. I follow lots of forums and I discover everywhere that things I took for granted where just bullshit! I am not surprised about Chiron, the man must have been a real athlete and even at sixty he had a better allure than many guys half that age and just the way he was walking showed that he was still really fit.

So long, pifpafadonf

Actually, I think M.me Junek lost probably the race in cause of a puncture and mainly in cause of tiredness after a stressfull car chase to close the gap. It's all!

bye again
