Carrying on Alfa 33, absent in '70, took part in '71 by three factory cars to handle the Porsche team (three cars too).

After a strenuous fight and Porsche default, the Alfa n°5 driven by Vaccarella and Hezemans won at average 120,069 km/h coming before the Alfa n°2 driven by VanLennep-DeAdamich

Three of my fellow-countrymen drove an Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 in the Targa Florio.

In 1968 Rob Slotemaker drove a VDS-team Tipo 33/2 (numbered 178) together with Belgian driver Teddy Pilette.

After 10 laps they came home in fifth place. That year four Tipo's 33/2 finished in the top six.

In 1970 Toine Hezemans drove a Autodelta Tipo 33/3 (numbered 14). His co-driver in this race was American driver

Masten Gregory. They crashed after 5 laps and didn't finish.

A year later Hezemans won the Targa Florio together with Sicilian hero Nino Vaccarella. They were entered by

Carlo Chiti's Autodelta team in a Tipo 33/3 with startnumber 5.

Runner-up in this race ended a third Dutch Tipo 33 driver. Gijs van Lennep and co-driver Andrea de Adamich (I)

drove also a Tipo 33/3 for Autodelta.

Van Lennep later won the Targa Florio in a Martini Porsche Carrera RSR. His co-driver was Herbert Müller from

Switzerland.

Cordiali saluti

In '72, absent the Porsche team, the Alfa Romeo took part in Targa with four cars 33-3 last version against one only Ferrari 312 PB world championship ruler:

n°1 Vaccarella-Stommelen; n°2 Elford-VanLennep; n°4 Hezemans-DeAdamich; n°5 Marko-Galli.

The race was very tight to the last, but the car n°5, in spite of a superMarko, did not menage to beat (for 17'' only) the Ferrari driven by Merzario and Munari.

1973 was the last year with world championship validity and the Autodelta Alfa Romeo came in Sicily taking two cars new version 33 TT12 for DeAdamich-Stommelen (n°6) and Regazzoni-Facetti (n°7).

Unfortunately, the car n°6 only took part in the race, because Regazzoni (was driving too fast) destroyed his car in practise. The DeAdamich's car, while was taken up to victory, was involved in a banal accident and the victory given to Porsche.

Shortleg,

I also know that the Brescia Corse Team, which had a Tipo 33TT3 wanted to start in the Targa Florio in 1973.

But i thought that the car crashed in practice. Do you know more?

The Tipo Trentatre pictures are gorgeous, I love the car and also the Madonie circuit. Many thanks for

putting them on the forum. Are some of the pictures taken by yourself?

It was the #7 AutoDelta car driven by Regazzoni-Facetti that had a crash in practice, and didn't start in the race.

The #2 Alfa Romeo 33TT3 (#11572.002) driven by Zeccoli-"Pam", and entered by Brescia Corse had an oil leak and didn't start either.

Here's another picture of De Adamich's #6 33TT12 after his accident

Does anybody have some pictures of the Brescia Corse Tipo 33TT3, especially from the Targa practice.

I know that the car was painted white and blue. The Scuderia Brescia Corse had the official support

of Autodelta.

Alfaronny, does the De Adamichs car have a broken suspension and is it leaking on your picture?

The Alberti/Williams car is a 33-2 coupe with the roof cut-off, it looks shabby.

De Adamich hit a Lancia he was trying to overtake (or the Lancia hit him ???), and his race was over. So I presume he's got a broken suspension, and what you see under the car is probably dust of the road or smoke of the tire.

I'll see if I can find out more

Yes Ronny, DeAdamich trying to overtake the Lancia Fulvia, in cause of incomprehension, first hit the car and after a post made of ston breaking the front suspension when he had an advantage more than six minutes over 2nd car (Muller-VanLennep)!!!

Great pictures shortleg. I presume they were made during practice for the Targa Florio.

Is it you who made the pictures? You must be a lucky man to be a witness of the real Targa in the seventies.

I know the Targa only from books and films, but it must have been a great race.

The Porsche in the background is the sistercar of the winner in 1973. This Porsche Carrera didn't start in the race

just like the Brescia Corse 33TT3.

Winner in 1973 were my fellow-countryman Gijs van Lennep and Herbert Müller from Switzerland.

Later Van Lennep admitted that he had only won the race because the three faster cars in front of him

didn't finish. But it's like the English say; If you want to finish first, you first have to finish!

Again thanks for the pictures. Maybe you have also a story to it...

Are you superstitious?

In 1926 Masetti, known as " leone delle Madonie", took part in Targa Florio on a Delage n°13, instead Benoist was engaged with n°17.

It said that the two drivers, great friends, made fun themselves mutually saying that your relative numbers would be brought bad luck; My 13 is a lucky number and I'll win again, told Masetti... :non:

All know the sad epilogue!
