I liked that picture of the 1979 RAC Rally so much I bought a copy from his website.

 

Here are a couple of Australian works cars, first the 1979 Southern Cross and then 1980 Australian championship.

I believe that is the 1979 1000 Lakes and it could be Erkki Pitkanen. Somewhere I have a colour photo of the car from the same event, I will track it down.

 

You must have a large Datsun photo collection, you've posted many that I have never seen before!

check and other threads :greek rally championship (in section photos) , timo salonen, sekhar mehta , rally safari , datsun rally , datsun 240z , etc , maybe you find more

Nice to see a pic of a PA10 from the 1982 Safari that isn't Mehta's Marlboro car.

 

I imagine that is an ex-works car driven by a German privateer.

I have an article on DAD that I will scan and post here, it covers the SOHC car that you show above as well as an early DOHC car.

 

In the meantime here are a couple of replicas, the first from New Zealand and the second in Japan.

Here is the Dawson article / test of the single and twin-cam PA10s. These are very early model cars, I'm sure they got better with continued development.

 

Note the capacity of the twin-cam engine (1940cc) as compared to the single cam (1952cc). I believe this is because the early LZ engines were built out of enlarged L18 blocks, rather than L20B.

Timo Salonen / Seppo Harjanne 1980 Motogard Rally NZ, 1st overall. I have the remains of the sister car to this (driven by George Fury to 8th overall) and will start restoring it next year
