Many thanks to Ldman * The Kuwaiti car market is down 4% in March to 12,728 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 34,014 units, still up a very healthy 14% on 2011. While in February it looked like the Toyota Hilux had resumed its market domination for good after losing the Full Year 2011 top spot to the Toyota Land Cruiser because of supply issues, the cards are redistributed again this month. The Nissan D22 makes up for a horrid start of the year (#104) by brilliantly taking the lead of the models ranking with 965 sales and 7.6% share. It is the first time in at least 15 months that a non-Toyota models ranks #1 in Kuwait! http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Nissan-D22-Kuwait-March-2012.jpgNissan D22 The Toyota Prado stays solid in 2nd place at 683 units and 5.4% and therefore holds onto the 2012 year-to-date pole position with 2,165 sales and 6.5%, still comfortably ahead of the Toyota Hilux, #3 in March, at 1,752 units and 5.2% while the Nissan D22 is up to #3 with 1,625 sales and 4.8%. The Toyota Land Cruiser is up an impressive 8 spots on last month to #4, followed by the Toyota Camry. Another excellent month for the Mitsubishi Pajero at #6, it is #5 year-to-date vs. #12 in 2011. Massive event this month: Mazda passes Holden for the first time ever to become the #2 manufacturer behind Toyota at 7,681 sales vs. 7,589 for Holden with Hyundai lurking in 4th position at 7,017 units. This is due to the combined effect of the exceptional success of the Mazda CX-5 already knocking on the Top 10′s door at #11 with 1,413 sales and 1.8% share and depleted stocks of Holden Colorado in the wake of the new model’s arrival in June. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Toyota-Hilux-Australia-April-2012.jpgToyota Hilux The Toyota Hilux takes the lead of the models ranking for the first time since April 2010 with 3,565 sales and 4.5%, its highest market share in Australia since December 2009! The Mazda3 is kicked down to 2nd place at 3,005 units and 3.8% but keeps the 2012 year-to-date pole position by far with 14,601 sales and 4.3%. The Toyota Corolla rounds up the podium at 2,573 units and 3.3% and ranks #2 year-to-date with 12,067 sales and 3.6%. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Toyota-Prado-Australia-April-2012.jpgToyota Prado For only the second time ever after last January, the Holden Cruze outells its big brother Commodore with 2,315 units and 2.9% vs. 2,248 and 2.8%. The Commodore is still ahead year-to-date, but just with 10,596 sales vs. 10,520 for the Cruze. Another excellent month for the Toyota Prado up a further 2 spots on last month to #7 with 1,725 units and 2.2% while the Mitsubishi Triton reclaims its place in the Top 10 at #10. No surprise in pole position: the VW Golf dominates as usual with 22,457 sales and 8.2% share, however there is a nice surprise for BMW in 2nd place: boosted by the new generation launched late last year and now widespread in dealerships around the country, the Series 3 sells 7,907 units for an excellent 2.9% share, its first time at #2 since December 2008! It is also the first time since June 2011 that Volkswagen doesn’t place a model in both #1 and #2 in Germany. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Audi-A3-Germany-April-2012.jpg2012 Audi A3 The 3 Series’ formidable month means the Passat and Polo are kicked down to #3 and #4 respectively, while the Opel Astra and Mercedes C-Class resist at #5 and #6. Very strong month for the Audi A3 up 14 spots on March to #7, its highest ranking since December 2010, and for the Audi A6/A7 back up inside the Top 10 for the third time this year at #8. At #9, the VW Tiguan maintains itself in the Top 10 for the 4th consecutive month whereas it had only managed to break into it twice before in the nameplate’s 4 years life - in January and February 2011! Robust showings for the Mercedes B-Class up to #12, the VW Up! equalling its best-ever ranking at #22, the Audi Q3 reaching a best-ever #35 and the Fiat Panda up 23 spots on March thanks to the new generation. It’s a very chauvinistic month for German car sales: if we consider Skoda and Seat ‘German’ (I know this is controversial, but bear with me), there is only 4 ‘true’ foreign models in the Top 40: the Fiat Ducato at a very unusual #28, the Hyundai i30 at #31, the Renault Twingo at #36 and Megane at #39… Previous month: Germany March 2012: Polo above 10,000 units, BMW 1 Series #5 One year ago: Germany April 2011: VW Golf stronger Full April 2012 Top 50 Ranking Table below. skotroen 12 mai 2012 Signaler Partager 12 mai 2012
Russie Avril 2012: Lada Granta #4, Chevy Cruze breaks into Top 10
May 13th, 2012 matgasnier Leave a comment Go to comments http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Lada-Granta-Russia-April-2012.jpgLada Granta * See the Top 25 best-selling models by clicking on the title! * While most European countries are struggling in this start of 2012, there is no sign of slowing down for Russian car sales, up an impressive 14% year-on-year in April to 266,267 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 880,540 units, up 18% on 2011. I have to admit Russia has become one of my most eagerly anticipated countries these days as I find it fascinating to follow the progression of the Lada Granta and the surprising success of the Hyundai Solaris. It is truly a unique time in the history of car sales in Russia. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Lada-Kalina-Russia-April-2012.jpgLada Kalina Well this month we were expecting lots of changes and there is virtually none atop the ranking, let’s just label it a ‘consolidation’ month. The Lada Kalina leads again with 13,890 sales and 5.2%, its 2nd highest volume behind April 2011 and the 6th time it ever tops the monthly Russian ranking after November 2010, April & July 2011 and January & March 2012. The Lada Priora is up to #2 at 11,374 units and 4.3% while the Hyundai Solaris is down to #3 but with 10,979 sales it reaches its strongest volume ever and most probably the highest monthly figure for a ‘foreign’ model even though it is produced locally. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Chevrolet-Cruze-Russia-April-2012.jpgChevrolet Cruze. Picture by Roger-Diesel, all rights reserved. The Lada Granta is taking a little longer than expected to climb onto the Russian podium and stays 4th this month with a best-ever 9,798 units and 3.7% share, stable vs. last month. It is now #5 year-to-date with 26,674 sales and 3%. Expect it to resume its progression to the top in the next few months. The Kia Rio continues on its winning trajectory, delivering its strongest volume ever this month at 8,100 units in 6th place, up 60% year-on-year. The VW Polo stays strong at #9, up 92% on April 2011. We welcome a new entrant in the Russian Top 10: the Chevrolet Cruze, produced in St Petersburg and up 4 ranks on last month to land #10 with 5,522 sales and 2.1% which are also its volume and share records in the country. For the first time in recent memory the entire Top 10 is composed of models produced locally. Other notable performances this month include the Daewoo Nexia’s last hurrah (?) up 7 spots to #13 and the Toyota Camry up 4 to #18. Many thanks to Ldman * The Gulf Cooperation Council is composed of the sates bordering the Persian Gulf: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Car sales in the region are very robust in this start of the year, up 9% year-on-year in April to 122,854 units and up 13% year-to-date at 346,024 registrations. The Toyota Hilux, now fully recovered from supply issues related to the Thailand floods, is more dominating than ever, grabbing a formidable 10% share of the region’s overall market thanks to 12,344 units sold this month, its highest volume in at least 18 months and possibly ever. It tops the rankings in 3 of the 6 countries of the region: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman where it holds a 14.5% share. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Toyota-Land-Cruiser-GCC-March-2012.jpgToyota Land Cruiser In second place we find the icon of the region, or ‘the Pride of the Land’ as Toyota calls it: the Toyota Land Cruiser, up from #4 in February with 7,217 sales and an excellent 5.9% share. This progression is due to fantastic results in Qatar where it leads with 15.4% share, the highest share of any model in any country in the region this month, in Bahrain where it also is in pole position with 9.2% and in the UAE where it ranks #2. The Land Cruiser is now #3 year-to-date at 16,119 units and 4.7% vs. #4 over the Full Year 2011. The Toyota Corolla and Camry follow at 4.8% and 3.7% respectively, with the Camry still getting organised as the new generation spreads around dealership across the region. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Infiniti-FX-GCC-March-2012.jpgInfiniti FX #3 last month, the Hyundai Accent is down to a still excellent 5th spot in April and is #4 year-to-date with 14,200 sales and 4.1%. Very strong in Kuwait, Bahrain (#2 each time) and Oman where it delivers its highest share at 8.7%, the Toyota Prado is #6 overall with 3,942 sales and 3.2%. For the first time this year, two Renaults dominate the models ranking: the Clio leads as usual with 239 sales and 5.5% and is followed by the Megane at 222 units and 5.1% while the VW Polo rounds up the podium with 178 sales and 4.1%. This is how the podium used to look like in Slovenia, at least over the Full Year 2011. Year-to-date in 2012 the Polo is still #2. I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record, mentioning the Kia Rio in every Slovenian post, but the fact is the little Korean is delivering outstanding results in the country since the launch of the new generation and this month it reaches its best ranking ever in Slovenia in 5th place, its highest volume at 132 units and its strongest market share at 3%! I’m sure you’ll agree it would have been unfair not to mention it! http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/BMW-3-Series-Slovenia-April-2012.jpgBMW 3 Series Other great performers this month include the Nissan Qashqai up 28 spots on March to #12, the BMW 3 Series up from literally nowhere (at least outside the Top 70) to #15, the Renault Kangoo up 55 ranks to #17, the VW Up! up 3 to a best-ever 22nd place, the Skoda Superb up 24 to #26, the Peugeot 208 landing directly at #34 for its very first month of sales with 45 units sold and the BMW X3 up 16 spots to #48. It’s the usual suspects atop the models ranking: the Skoda Octavia and Fabia lead the way with 10% and 8% respectively, both still slightly below their 2012 year-to-date levels. Boosted by a much improved new generation and like in neighbouring Czech Republic, the Hyundai i30 is up 5 spots on March to climb on the Slovak podium for what could well be the first time in the nameplate’s career, thanks to 188 sales and 3.2%. This means the Kia Cee’d is kicked down to a still respectable 4th place at 150 units and 2.6%. The Suzuki SX4 displays excellent resistence for a model that has been in market virtually unchanged for 6 years: it is up 2 ranks on last month to #5 with 143 sales and 2.3%. The Kia Sportage (+7) and Rio (-3) make it 3 Kias in the Top 7 like in the 2012 year-to-date ranking: even Skoda hasn’t managed this feat! Other great performers this month in Slovakia include the Nissan Qashqai maintaining itself within the Top 10 for the 2nd time ever, the Hyundai i20 up 12 spots to #12, the BMW 5 Series up 40 to #21, the Nissan Juke up 57 to #27 and the Skoda Citigo making its very first appearance in the Slovak Top 50 to land directly in 34th place with 48 sales and 0.8% share. Many thanks to DC * New car sales in China are up 12.5% year-on-year in April to 1.4 million. The Buick Excelle is still not letting go of its pole position, holding it for the third time in a row and the 6th time in the last 9 months with 23,179 sales, bringing its year-to-date total to an outstanding 99,557 units. Below the antediluvian VW Jetta (based on the 1984 model) still valiant in 2nd place, the Ford Focus, boosted by the arrival of the new generation, is up a massive 14 spots on March to round up the podium at #3 and 21,793 units. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Ford-Focus-China-April-2012.jpgFord Focus Volkswagen manages to place 3 models in the Top 5 with the Passat at #4 and the Lavida at #5 and 4 models in the Top 7 with the Bora at #7… Like in January, the Hyundai Verna hits its best-ever ranking at #8 thanks to a record 18,786 sales, making it two Hyundais in the Top 10 with the Elantra Yuedong at #9. Highest position ever also for the VW Magotan up to #11 with 16,188 units. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/GAC-Trumpchi-GS5.jpgGAC Trumpchi GS5 The best-selling Chinese model is once again the Great Wall Haval H3/H5/H6 this month at #13 with 15,747 sales followed by the FAW Xiali N3/N5 at #15 with 15,476 units and the Chery QQ at #20 with 12,423 sales. That same month, General Motors launched the Baojun 630 which received a much warmer welcome: it peaked at #31 last February, and after falling to #83 last month it is now back up to #53. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Ciimo-Si-Ming-China-April-2012.jpgCiimo Si Ming In April we welcome Ciimo, Dongfeng-Honda’s low-cost brand with the Ciimo Si Ming based on the previous generation Honda Civic selling 3,022 units for a respectable 118th position. The podium is expected: the Toyota Avanza grabs over 20% of the market with 15,882 sales, making it 63,880 since the start of the year, and is followed by the Toyota Kijang Innova at 6,448 units and 8.4% and the Avanza’s twin the Daihatsu Xenia with 5,884 sales and 7.6%. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Toyota-Innova-Indonesia-April-2012.jpgToyota Innova in Ubud, Bali Indonesia April 2012 http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Daihatsu-Xenia-Indonesia-April-2012b.jpgDaihatsu Xenia in Seminyak, Bali Indonesia April 2012 The fourth place is a surprise for those of you who have been following this blog: previously stuck outside the Top 10 because split in different versions, the Daihatsu Gran Move pick-up finally gets the opening it deserves and delivers 3,721 sales for an excellent 4.8% share. The Minivan version is also very successful at #20 with 1,039 units. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Daihatsu-Gran-Max-Indonesia-April-2012.jpgDaihatsu Gran Max Luxio in Ubud, Bali Indonesia April 2012 http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Mitusbishi-L300-Indonesia-April-2012.jpgTypical street scene in Ubud, Bali Indonesia April 2012 Mitsubishi places relatively old designs pretty high in the ranking: the L300 (minivan) is #8 while the T120 SS (Pick-up) is #12 and the very similar looking Suzuki Carry Pick-up at #9. I can confirm that these 3 models sell very well in Bali and have been for years as I have seen dozens of them in the streets. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Suzuki-Ertiga-Indonesia-April-2012b.jpgSuzuki Ertiga At #15 with 1,321 sales for its first month in the country we find the all-new Suzuki Ertiga imported from India even though it seems to have been designed especially for the minivan crave of Indonesian consumers. I saw some billboard advertising for it while in Bali but none in the streets so the model’s deployment across the country must still be in progress. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Suzuki-APV-Indonesia-April-2012.jpgSuzuki APV in Ubud, Bali Indonesia April 2012 Finally in a surprisingly low #19 spot (it was #4 over the Full Year 2011) we find the Suzuki APV, nearly the equal of the Toyota Avanza on Bali roads, with 1,082 sales. No doubt it will climb back up the ladder in the next few months. You can see the entire Top 20 for April by clicking here. Toyota Alphard in Ubud, Bali Indonesia April 2012 Now over to me to share with you what the official ranking doesn’t tell you… You will have got it by now, Indonesia is incredibly fond of MPVs, and it seems that any car in the market that gets close to this shape is an instant success. It is the case of the Honda Freed, Suzuki Splash, Suzuki Estilo and Toyota Alphard, seemingly reserved for VIP, like the English band One Direction while I was there! http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Toyota-Vios-Indonesia-April-2012.jpgTypical street scene in Seminyak, Bali Indonesia April 2012 http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Geely-MK2-Indonesia-April-2012.jpgGeely MK2 in Seminyak, Bali Indonesia April 2012 In all this fascinating car landscape, there doesn’t seem to be too many Chinese models I hear you say, and you would be right. With one exception: traditionally the territory of the Toyota Vios, more and more taxi drivers in Seminyak are starting to opt for a brand new Geely MK2. I took a ride in one and apart from the flimsy noise the door makes when it closes (what did I expect, an Audi sound?) it seemed to me to be rather well equipped. skotroen 13 mai 2012 Signaler Partager 13 mai 2012
France Avril 2012: Peugeot 208 in Top 10, Dacia Lodgy lands
May 13th, 2012 matgasnier Leave a comment Go to comments http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Peugeot-208-France-April-2012.jpgPeugeot 208 * See the Top 100 best-selling models by clicking on the title! * The French car market significantly slows down its fall in April at just -1.6% year-on-year to 166,632 registrations, now that the comparison with a scrappage scheme-boosted Q1 2011 is over. The year-to-date total is down 17.5% to 674,462 units. It’s the calm before the storm in the models ranking with the entire Top 7 identical to last month. The Renault Clio leads with 5.1% share ahead of the Peugeot 207 at an estimated 3.7%, the Renault Megane, Citroen C3 (both at 3.4%), Renault Scenic (3.3%), Peugeot 308 (3%) and 3008 at 2.9%, its 2nd strongest market share behind the 3.3% it reached in May 2011. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Dacia-Lodgy-France-April-2012.jpgDacia Lodgy With an estimated 3,833 sales and 2.4% the Citroen C4 is up 5 spots to #8, the 2nd generation’s highest ranking ever and the nameplate’s best finish since April 2008. The C4′s record is #6, a position it reached in October 2005, August 2006 and Feb 2007. As expected we welcome the Peugeot 208 in the French monthly Top 10 this month, up 7 ranks on March to #9 with 3,701 units and 2.2%. 19,000 orders have been received since launch including 8,700 in April. The demand for more luxurious finishes (Allure & Feline) is higher than Peugeot expected (50% vs.35%), meaning production lines have had to be tweaked which has slowed deliveries. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Citroen-C4-France-April-2012.jpgCitroen C4 It will be particularly interesting to see how Peugeot handles the transition between the 207 and 208. So far it has done very well, as the 207 has not even started to sink. Further down, the Dacia Duster is up 7 spots on last month to #11 and the Citroen DS3 is at its best since October 2010: up 9 ranks to #14 with 2,745 sales and 1.6%. The Peugeot 5008 also has a killer month: after breaking into the weekly Top 10 for the first time, it ranks #16 with 2,639 units and 1.6%, its highest ranking since July 2011. The VW Tiguan equals its highest ranking at #21 and hits its best-ever market share at 1.3%, double its traditional level in the country! http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Citroen-C4-Aircross-France-April-2012.jpgCitroen C4 Aircross A few other newcomers hit their highest ranking this month. The prestigious Citroen DS5 continues its progression, up 5 spots to #40 with 1,092 sales and 0.7%, the Citroen C4 Aircross breaks into the Top 50 for the very first time at #50 with 892 units and 0.5%, something the VW Up!, now #57, could achieve in the next couple of months. Notice the Peugeot 4008 growing to 228 units. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Peugeot-4008-France-April-2012.jpgPeugeot 4008 The highly anticipated Dacia Lodgy, the first medium MPV under 10,000 euros, is already eating the Renault Scenic for breakfast in all comparos. This month it lands into the French Top 100 for the first time at #67 with 660 sales, just 3 units above the Logan already. 4,500 orders have been received in 2 weeks and a spot in the monthly Top 10 in the near future is almost a certainty. Each Dacia released since Renault has relaunched the brand has done so: the Logan peaked at #7 in December 2007, the Sandero at #2 in March 2010 and the Duster at #5 in November 2011. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Chevrolet-Cruze-France-April-2012b.jpgChevrolet Cruze Chevrolet delivers its strongest month ever in France with 3,158 sales and 1.9% share. Most of its range is up, with the US brand placing 5 models in the Top 85 for the first time: the Spark up 14 spots on March to #52, the Aveo is down 2 to #75, the Cruze is up 21 to #80 thanks to the hatchback, the Orlando up 12 to #81 and the Captiva is up 10 to #85. Many thanks to DC * Andorra, also romantically called the Principalty of the Valleys of Andorra, is located in the Pyrenees mountains inbetween France and Spain and is one of the smallest countries in the world with just 82,000 inhabitants. Thanks to DC from Autoweek.nl, Andorra is the latest addition to the list of countries covered by this blog as I am now able to share with you some official car sales data! http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Range-Rover-Evoque-Andorra-March-2012.jpgLand Rover Range Rover Evoque Over the first 3 months of 2012 a bit over 400 cars were sold in Andorra, down 5% on 2011 or a much better situation than its neighbour Spain. And it seems like Andorrans have pretty elitist tastes when it comes to cars. Apart from Volkswagen in pole position all Top 5 brands are premium. In 2nd place we find BMW at 12% share, followed by Land Rover at 8%, Audi at 6% and Mercedes at 5%. Looking back at the Andorran car market in 2011, we notice that BMW was the most popular brand with 204 sales or 11.3% share. At 1,799 units, the market was down 10% on 2010 and was the 2nd worst year since 1979 with 2009 when 1,715 cars sold… By comparison the record of 4,163 registrations reached in 2003 seems really far away and 2011/2012 sales figures are closer to what was observed in the country in the seventies… Full Q1 2012 Top 5 and 11 months 2011 Top 8 Ranking Tables below. For the first time ever in the country, the Ford Ranger becomes the best-selling vehicle overall, but only just: with 279 sales and 4% market share it is only 1 unit above the Toyota Hilux this month! The Suzuki Swift is up one spot on March to round up the podium at #3. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Mazda-CX-5-New-Zealand-April-2012.jpgMazda CX-5 Up 5 ranks to 4th place this month with 218 sales and 3.1%, the Toyota Corolla is still in pole position in the 2012 year-to-date ranking with 1,506 units and 4.8% ahead of the Suzuki Swift at 1,169 units and 3.7% and the Toyota Hilux with 898 sales and 2.9%. Many thanks to René * After Andorra yesterday, thanks to René Heeres I am able to add an even tinier European nation to the list of countries Best Selling Cars Blog covers: Lichtenstein, also a principality, has just 35,000 inhabitants, covers just 160 square kilometres and is located between Austria and Switzerland. And the new car market is in great shape in Lichtenstein in 2011, up 14% year-on-year to 2,029 registrations. Like in its neighbouring countries Volkswagen dominates sales, so much so that it monopolises the podium in 2011, placing the VW Golf at #1 with 83 sales and 4.1%, followed by the Polo at 77 units and 3.8% and the Passat with 53 sales and 2.6%. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Audi-Q5-Lichtenstein-2011.jpgAudi Q5 The VAG group grabs 4 more spots within the Top 10: the Audi A4 ranks #4, the Skoda Octavia is #5, the Audi Q5 is at #7 with 1.5% share, most probably its best year-end ranking anywhere in the world, and the VW Transporter is #9. BMW places the 5 Series in 6th place and the Mini at #8 and the Ford Fiesta rounds up the Top 10. Notice also the Ford Kuga at #11, the BMW X3 at #13, BMW X1 at #15 and Honda Jazz at #19. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Porsche-Cayenne-Lichtenstein-2011.jpgPorsche Cayenne Another very successful brand in Lichtenstein is Porsche… The Porsche Cayenne is up to an extremely impressive 25th spot with 21 sales and 1% share, the Porsche 911 ranks #41 with 15 units and 0.7% share and the Panamera is #82 with 8 sales. Plus the Range Rover ranks at a very respectable #35. Full Year 2011 Top 100 Ranking Table below.
