New cars demand is soaring in the country as salaries are on the up and the violence is down. General Motors and Kia in particular are reporting big sales increases. GM sold 32,000 vehicles in the country in 2011, up 68% on 201o and a huge 2033% on 2006, making Iraq GM’s second biggest market in the area behind Saudi Arabia. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Kia-Rio-Iraq-2012.jpgKia Rio A look at Chevrolet’s Iraqi range shows that no less than 18 models are on sale in the country, including the all-new Sonic and Malibu… For its part Kia sold 9,000 cars over the first 3 months of 2012, up 47% year-on-year. Kia’s Iraqi range is complete with the all-new Picanto, Rio and Optima. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/License-Plate-black-market-in-Iraq.jpg A bizarre black market for license plates has formed in the country, resulting in situations where on top of the price of the car, $5,000 are necessary to secure an existing license plate to pose on the car, as new license plates are unregulated and only rarely released by the government. A market regulation is needed in the country to fully harness the growing demand for new cars. A fascinating market that I will endeavour to find more information about over the coming months… Link to the original Daily Star Lebanon article below. http://www.dailystar.com.lb Many thanks to Achtung for sharing the link! http://bestsellingcarsblog.com [...] eat-shape/ Lien vers le commentaire Partager sur d’autres sites Plus d'options de partage...

As Peugeot slowly winds down after stopping the importation of CKD kits under pressure from General Motors, total production of new cars in Iran this month is down 27% year-on-year to 53,740 units. Surprisingly it’s actually the Saipa Pride production figures that have the most impact of the overall fall: going from 32,576 units at the same time last year to 21,456 now, down 34%. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Renault-Tondar-90-Iran-April-2012.jpgRenault Tondar 90 The Iran Khodro Samand resists and only loses 5% to 7,470 units, gaining one spot on last month to #2 while the Peugeot 405 is down 12% to 7,112 units. The big beneficiary of Peugeot’s withdrawal is Renault, with the Tondar 90 (aka Dacia Logan) up a massive 35% year-on-year to 5,149 units and reaching its highest ranking ever at #4. The Peugeot 206 follows, down 53%, ahead of the Peugeot Pars down 6%. The Peugeot 207i still delivers solid numbers at 1,202 units ahead of the Renault Megane up 48% to 911 units. Many thanks to Austin * In my March 2012 World round-up I had ventured a rough estimation of the Top 10 best-selling cars in the world for that month, with the Toyota Prius family at 106,522 units and the Corolla at 102,000, making it the first time ever a hybrid car topped the worldwide models ranking. Now that pretty much all splits and detailed data has come through and thanks to the work of Austin Rutherford I can share with you a Top 20 ranking for March that is a little less rough… http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Toyota-Corolla-World-March-2012.jpgToyota Corolla Disappointment for Prius fans at first sight: with 106,909 units sold in March the Prius family trails the Corolla at 111,725. Still astounding figures for both nameplates, placing them at a rate of above 1 million annual units! As a reminder the Prius figure includes 3 different bodystyles: the Prius ‘standard’ sells 48,160 units, the Prius c aka Aqua sells 34,522 and the Prius MPV sells 24,227. However from the Corolla’s side, the total figure includes loads of Matrix sales (the two models are not split in the US), over 8,000 Auris and 13,411 previous generation Corollas sold in China. Without these, the Prius family is on top an by far… So it all depends which way you look at it… http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Ford-Focus-World-March-2012.jpgFord Focus The Ford Focus is very close to my original estimate and stays in third position with 97,365 sales which has to be one of the nameplate’s strongest worldwide months ever since it launched in 1998. Boosted by a huge market in the UK the Ford Fiesta is up one spot compared to my original estimate to #4 with 87,315 sales, followed by the VW Golf at 83,426. Very strong in the States, the Toyota Camry takes a remarkable 6th place with 77,431 sales vs.#12 over the Full Year 2011. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Honda-CR-V-World-March-2012.jpgHonda CR-V Extremely strong figures as well for the VW Jetta at #7 with 76,964 units, the Chevrolet Cruze at 75,200 and the VW Polo at 74,610. Helped by a successful launch in Brazil and India the Nissan Versa/Tiida/Sunny rounds up the Top 10 at just under 72,000 units. At 66,240 units, the Honda CR-V sells even more than what I had predicted (61,200) and should deliver the nameplate’s strongest worldwide month ever, but ranks #13 vs. #8 in my original estimate. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Honda-Fit-World-March-2012.jpgHonda Fit The Hyundai Elantra drops from #6 in 2011 to #14 this month and the Wuling Sunshine goes from #7 to #17, reversely the Hyundai Accent is up to #16 with 56,645 sales while the Honda Fit, boosted by a best-ever score in Japan, goes from #32 to #18 and the Suzuki Swift/Dzire, helped by record-breaking sales in India, goes from #31 to #19. Now that production is back to normal in Thailand, the Toyota Hilux returns inside the Top 20 at #20 this month. Many thanks to Austin * Now that we have had a precise look at March worldwide sales, let’s expand the ranking and explore the 100 models that sold the most worldwide over the first Quarter of 2012. And when you compare this ranking to the Full Year 2011 Top 100 there are A LOT of changes, so it’s a pretty fascinating adventure we are embarking on together… In spite of a scare (or a historical loss, depending on which way you split the numbers) in March where it was neck and neck with the Prius family, the Toyota Corolla remains the best-selling model worldwide over the period with 285,352 sales, on its way to yet another 1 million+ year. The massive event in this start of 2012 is the thunderous take off of the Prius family, delivering an out-of-this world 242,947 units which means 1 million Priuses could find a buyer in 2012 alone… Granted, this figure includes the 3 bodystyles that now compose the Prius family. But even when split, each version would find its way in the world Top 80: the Prius would rank #26 with 116,756 sales compared to #42 in 2011, the Prius c/Aqua would be #57 at 69,983 units and the Prius MPV #78 with 56,208. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/VW-Jetta-World-Q1-2012.jpgVW Jetta Down from #2 in 2011, the Ford Focus lodges an excellent quarter at 236,261 sales and is followed by the VW Jetta, up an impressive 6 spots on its 2011 ranking with 202,804 sales, including various generations of the model on sale in each corner of the planet which all sell very well at the same time and make the Jetta Volkswagen’s best-selling nameplate over the period. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Toyota-Camry-World-Q1-2012.jpgToyota Camry The Toyota Camry, boosted by the arrival of its new generation, also has an excellent quarter, up 7 ranks on 2011 to #5 with 196,892 sales, ahead of the Ford Fiesta (-1) and VW Golf (-4). The Chevrolet Cruze stays #8 but with 188,863 sales it is General Motors’ best-seller (and not the Wuling Sunshine) for the first time ever. The Nissan Versa is also called Tiida and Sunny in its hatchback and sedan versions in different parts of the globe but it’s all the same model and it sells very well, up from #15 in 2011 to #9 with 187,867 units. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Nissan-Versa-World-Q1-2012.jpgNissan Versa Further down, notice the Hyundai Accent up 4 spots to #15 thanks to astounding success in Russia notably where it is sold as Solaris, the Honda CR-V also up 4 ranks to #16, the Suzuki Swift/Dzire up 14 to #17 thanks to huge numbers in India, the Nissan Qashqai up 14 as well to #24 with record-breaking sales all across Europe, the VW Tiguan up 25 to #28 and the Kia Rio up a massive 59 spots to #35 with 101,059 sales. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Great-Wall-Haval-H5-World-Q1-2012.jpgGreat Wall Haval H5 There are a few newcomers in the Top 100, among them the Daihatsu Mira Kei car up to #55 with 71,539 sales all in Japan, the Wuling Hongguang up to #58 at 69,445 units and the Isuzu D-Max up to #72 with 57,497 sales. The best-selling Chinese vehicle is still the Wuling Sunshine but it is down 7 spots to #14. Quick reminder: the market is up 13% in 2011 to 2,524 registrations et BMW takes the lead with 15.1% of the market, partly thanks to 200 units registered by Prince Albert for his Royal Wedding. Leader in 2010, Audi is down to #2 with a stable share at 14.1% thanks to 356 sales and is followed by Mercedes at 12.2%. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Porsche-Carrera-GT-Monaco-2011.jpgPorsche Carrera GT. Picture by Alex Penfold, all rights reserved. Volkswagen is stable at #4 and 6.1% just one unit above Mini very strong at +38% year-on-year thanks to the Countryman. Porsche reaches most probably its highest ranking in the world at #6 but is down 26% and one spot on 2010 to 113 sales and 4.3% share. Land Rover breaks into the Top 10 thanks to the Evoque at 73 units and 2.9%, up 46% on 2010. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Bentley-Monaco-2011.jpgBentley Mulsanne. Fiat 500 gains fans and sales in the U.S. The Fiat 500 is winning fans and increasing sales fast in the United States. Maybe it's because of fun ads starring bad boy actor Charlie Sheen and striking Romanian model Catrinel Menghia; or maybe it's because the design and size of the minicar set it apart in the land of beefy pickups, sedans and SUVs. Whatever the reason, the 500 is generating more smiles than an ice cream truck on a hot summer day. I recently got to experience a sampling of America's love for the car while driving the 500 in southwest Florida. Tollbooth operators, who are not known for being overly friendly, were quick to smile and compliment the 500. Parking lot attendants told me how much they liked the car. People walking their dogs waved. Even a kid playing catch with a baseball on his front lawn stopped to stare at the 500 as we cruised past. In nearly a decade of testing cars, I have never experienced such an outpouring of unsolicited affection for a new model. Many thanks to Ldman * The Egyptian car market is up 32% year-on-year in April to 16,405, but the 2011 figure was by the Spring revolution. In this context April 2012 is down 15% on April 2010. The 2012 year-to-date total stands at 59,652 units, up 33% on 2011 but down 23% on 2010. The Top 2 best-selling models are unchanged vs. last month, the 2012 year-to-date and Full Year 2011 rankings: the Hyundai Verna is in pole position with 1,768 sales and 10.8% share, followed by the Chevrolet TFR Pick-up (aka Isuzu D-Max) at 1,635 units and 10%. The new generation Hyundai Elantra rounds up the podium, up 2 spots on March with 1,147 sales and 7% share, its highest in the country since December 2011. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Peugeot-508-Egypt-April-2012.jpgPeugeot 508 Other great performers this month include the Suzuki Maruti M800 up 15 ranks on last month to #11, the new generation Kia Rio up 12 to #16 and the Renault Fluence up 21 to #18. One model manages to land directly within the Egyptian Top 20 for its very first month of sales in the country and it’s the Chevrolet Sonic with 124 sales for a solid 0.8% market share. Further down, notice the Chevrolet Cruze up 8 spots to #23, the new gen Kia Picanto up 12 to #26, the Chevrolet Spark up 46 to #29 and the Peugeot 508 reappearing in the ranking at a best-ever 30th place. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Maple-Aspire-Egypt-April-2012.jpgMaple Aspire There are no less than 22 Chinese models in the Egyptian ranking this month, with the Speranza Tiggo leading the pack at #15 with 244 sales and 1.5%. But I decided to put the spotlight on a little-known Chinese brand: Maple, also known as Shanghai Maple Guorun Automobile or SMA. As it happens, this brand actually doesn’t exist anymore, having been fully consolidated into Geely in 2008 and then replaced by Englon. But a few very last models are being sold in various countries, including Ukraine and Egypt: the Maple Aspire is #86 with 7 units sold… http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Maple-Escala-Egypt-April-2012.jpgMaple Escala …the Maple Escala is #129 with just one unit sold… http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Maple-Romeo-Egypt-April-2012.jpgMaple Romeo …whereas the Maple Romeo follows at #130, also with one lonely sale. skotroen 26 mai 2012 Signaler Partager 26 mai 2012
May 26th, 2012 matgasnier Leave a comment Go to comments http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Bentley-Mulsanne-Monaco-2011b.jpgBentley Mulsanne. Picture by Reivax, all rights reserved. Picture by Vikars, all rights reserved.

The Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max have been dominating the ranking by far for years, and with new versions of each pick-up available since late last year you’d expect them to increase their market share further. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Mitsubishi-Triton-Thailand-April-2012.jpgMitsubishi Triton You might say when they already hold over 70% of the pick-up market there is not much room for improvement and you would be right. This month the Hilux holds a 34.6% share and the D-Max is at 31.4%, a slight decrease that is the result of some very dynamic smaller players: the Mitsubishi Triton improves to 12% thanks to 4,468 sales, the Chevrolet Colorado continues to go up, reaching an amazing 9.3% share in April vs. 6.2% last month and the Mazda BT-50 is up one full percentage point to 5.3% at 1,959 units.
