After 3 consecutive months in pole position, the Toyota Hilux is passed by the VW Polo Vivo this month, leading for the first time since last January with 2,789 sales and 5.6%. The Hilux is still #1 year-to-date at 14,701 units and 5.9% vs. 13,506 and 5.4% for the Polo Vivo. Like in 2011 and 2012 year-to-date the VW Polo rounds up the podium this month with 2,343 sales and 4.7%. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Toyota-Etios-South-Africa-May-2012.jpgToyota Etios The Chevrolet Utiliy and Nissan NP200 are anchored in 4th and 5th positions while the Ford Ranger is 6th for the third consecutive month thanks to 1,593 sales at 3.2%. The year-to-date total stands at 1,539,782 units, up 59% on 2011. The fight for the pole position is getting extremely tight: the Toyota Prius leads for the 12th consecutive month with 20,789 sales, up 220% year-on-year but only 599 units ahead of the Toyota Aqua at 20,091 units. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Mazda-CX-5-Japan-May-2012.jpgMazda CX-5 In fact, the only reason why the Aqua did not grab the top spot this month is because Toyota cannot keep up with demand for the new model! The next few months will be fascinating to follow. The rest of the Top 6 is unchanged compared to April: the Honda Fit rounds up the podium at +55%, ahead of the Honda Freed (+77%), Toyota Vitz (-1%) and Nissan Serena (+22%). http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Toyota-86-Japan-May-2012.jpgToyota 86 Other great performers include the Honda StepWGN up 5 spots to #7, the Toyota Vellfire up 317% to #9 and Alphard up 433% to #11. skotroen 9 juin 2012 Signaler Partager 9 juin 2012
USA Mai 2012: Chevrolet Malibu hits highest volume in 10 years
June 5th, 2012 matgasnier Leave a comment Go to comments http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Chevrolet-Malibu-US-May-2012.jpgChevrolet Malibu * NOW UPDATED with the Top 40 best-selling models! Click on title to see. A bigger update is still to come * At +26% year-on-year, chances are the US car market will grow faster than China this month! Yep, this is rare enough to be bolded in my article… So it looks like the American consumer wants to buy cars again, and in a big way with sales up to 1,334,660 in May and 5,986,605 year-to-date, up a brilliant 13% on 2011. The driver of this growth is passenger cars, even though trucks fare very well too. Note General Motors reports its highest monthly sales in almost 3 years with 245,256 units in May, its highest tally since August 2009. Yes, it does sound like the economic crisis has well and truly passed in the US. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Toyota-Camry-US-May-2012.jpgToyota Camry The Top 2 cars stay unchanged: 33rd consecutive time in pole position for the Ford F-Series, up 29% year-on-year to 54,836 units and 6th month in a row at #2 and #1 passenger car for the Toyota Camry with 39,571 sales, up a massive 110% on a month of May 2011 disrupted by the Japanese tsunami. The Chevrolet Silverado is back to its usual third place at +22%. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Honda-Civic-Coupe-US-May-2012.jpgHonda Civic Coupe The Honda Civic is finally getting the boost its ‘new’ generation should have induced months ago, up 83% yoy to 33,490 sales and #4, its highest ranking since August 2010 and its best monthly volume since August 2009. The Toyota Corolla gets a similar treatment: up 87% to #5 and 31,847 units, its highest position since February 2011 and best volume since December 2009. In third place last month, the Honda Accord delivers another solid performance in May at #6 and 29,737 sales, up 75%. But this month’s best performer is the new gen Chevrolet Malibu, up 2 spots to #7, its highest ranking since June 2011, and selling 29,579 units which is the nameplate’s strongest month in at least 10 years, beating the 25,600 sales it delivered in May 2011. Many thanks to Michael * In Singapore at this stage I only have access to brands ranking but the trends are interesting enough to deserve a full article on here… 2,272 cars were sold in the country in April, bringing the year-to-date total to 9,782. While over the full year 2011 BMW ended 9 years of domination by Toyota to lead the brands ranking, over the first Quarter of 2012 it was the turn of Mercedes to hold the pole position with an outstanding 18.4% market share. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/BMW-3-Series-Singapore-April-2012.jpgBMW 3 Series However the situation looks like it’s getting back to normal albeit very slowly, with Toyota reclaiming the #1 spot in April with 431 sales and 19% share, ahead of BMW at 16.3%, Volkswagen at 12.3% and Mercedes at 12.1%. Year-to-date, Mercedes is still king with 17% share, just above BMW at 16.4% while Toyota rounds up the podium at 13.5%. Note Toyota sales include Lexus. This astonishing evolution of the Singaporean market is due to the Certificates of Entitlement (COEs), a government program meaning residents of Singapore have to bid for the right to buy a motor vehicle, with the number of certificates deliberately restricted. In April 2012 COEs prices went up again, to S$91,000 for cars over 1,600cc, roughly the same as the car price itself, and only the very rich can afford to buy a new car in Singapore these days… http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Lamborghini-Aventador-Singapore-April-2012.jpgLamborghini Aventador And this is illustrated further down in the brands ranking. Notice Audi at #5, Porsche at #12 with 1.9%, Land Rover at #13 with 1.6%, Jaguar at #19 and 0.9%, Lamborghini at #24 and Ferrari at #25m, both with 7 sales in April. Picture by Ciprian Mihai, all rights reserved. * See the Top 20 best-selling models by clicking on the title! Many thanks to Zsolti * Hungarian car sales continue to recover brilliantly after a couple of hellish years, up 20% year-on-year over both the first 5 months of 2012 to 22,829 registrations and in May at 4,581 units. Thanks to Zsolti I am able to share with you a Top 20 models ranking for 2012 year-to-date. The Opel Astra confirms it is now Hugary’s favourite with 1,395 sales and 6.1% share. Note this figure include 2 generations of the model the H with 820 units and J with 575. The Skoda Octavia, leader in 2011, is #2 with 1,257 sales and 5.5%. http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Suzuki-Swift-Hungary-May-2012.jpgSuzuki Swift There was a time when Suzuki dominated the Hungarian market head and shoulders with models built locally, even monopolising the podium in 2007 with the Swift, SX4 and Ignis. The economic crisis that saw Hungarian sales plunge by 60% in 2009 and by 26% in 2010 also took Suzuki with it: the Swift, best-seller in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, dropped to #4 in 2009 and #10 in 2010 before disappearing from the Top 10 completely in 2011. Will 2012 be the year Suzuki was reborn in Hungary? It looks like it, with the Swift up from a dismal #18 over the first 3 months of the year to a shiny #3 with 909 sales and 4% share over 5 months… http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Dacia-Duster-Hungary-May-2012.jpgDacia Duster The other great performer in the Top 20 is the Dacia Duster: below the Ford Focus down to #4, it is up 2 spots to a brilliant 5th place with 693 units sold and a solid 3% market share. The Renault Fluence, Skoda Fabia, Ford Fiesta and Nissan Qashqai all lose ground while the VW Golf reclaims its spot in the Top 10 after finishing #4 both in 2010 and 2011. All in all the year-to-date total is still largely in positive at +12% to 26,017 registrations. The Dacia Logan is getting back in shape at 1,487 sales and 19.2%, its strongest volume and market share so far in 2012. At #2 with 542 units and 7% the Skoda Octavia delivers its strongest market share since last August and passes the Dacia Duster, down to 4.1% in May, in the 2012 year-to-date ranking. The next 3 models all have an outstanding month: the Renault Symbol is up 7 spots on last month to #4 with 313 sales and 4%, the Chevrolet Aveo is also up 7 to #5 at 236 units and 3% and the Dacia Sandero is up 22 to #6 with 213 sales and 2.8%. Many thanks to Steam * In May the German new car market is down 5% year-on-year to 289,977 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,337,679 units, up just 0.3% on 2011. The VW Golf predictably holds the top spot at 7.6% share but the rest of the Top 10 is reshuffled. The VW Passat reclaims the #2 it held over the Full Year 2011 both this month and year-to-date at 2.9%. Helped by sales of the GTC version, the Opel Astra is up 2 spots on April to #3 at 7,410 units, followed by the BMW 3 Series at 7,052 and the Mercedes C-Class at 6,959. The best performer this month is the Mercedes B-Class up 6 ranks to a fantastic 6th place with 6,006 sales and 2.1% share. This is by far the highest ranking the B-Class has ever reached in Germany since the nameplate launched in 2005, its previous record being #9 in March 2011. It is only the 4th time ever the B-Class sells upwards of 6,000 units in a single month, after March 2006 (6,272), November 2006 (6,364) and March 2011 (6,212). Finally it is the B-Class second best market share with its record still standing at 2.2% in August 2006. VW Up! The VW Up! also shines in May and breaks into the German Top 20 for the very first time at #19 thanks to 4,449 sales for a 1.5% market share. The Up! seems to eat into its big sister Polo’s sales, with the latter down a worrying 4 spots to #8, its worst ranking in the country since September 2009. Notice also the Audi A4 up 7 ranks to #9, its first time in the Top 10 since last October. The ranking is more than ever dominated by locals: if we count Skoda and Seat as local brands (controversial I know), there are only 2 foreign models in the Top 40! The Fiat Ducato is #27 and the Nissan Qashqai #39… VW Beetle Three models break into the German Top 100 for the first time this month: the VW Beetle new generation up 50 spots to #72 with 1,046 sales, the Seat Mii up 59 to #89 and 779 units and the Skoda Citigo up 121 to #91 with 761 sales. There are also 3 newcomers in the ranking: the Peugeot 4008 at #181 and 169 units, the Lexus GS at #225 with 56 sales and the Lancia Fulvia at #260 and 24 units.
